Arter aims to encourage the industry to re-evaluate the importance of human-centred design by pioneering the transformation towards industrial facilities; It is designed with the aim of raising awareness of the potential for safe, productive and efficient operation. The new floor, which was designed from the inside out, where the control room where the system and operation of the facility are remotely monitored and managed 24/7, took into account the programmatic, functional and ergonomic needs of the users, starting from the workstations. In this way, while optimizing space efficiency, a unique form that adds dynamism to the space has emerged.

In addition to the natural tones of wood and soft colors, long, dark and sharp curves that encourage dynamism through the use of reflective and conductive materials have created a strong design line. While it is aimed to prevent unnecessary interactions by creating color differences between the sections, a resting area with high sitting and high tables has been designed for the operators to rest, with the screens positioned within the field of vision.

Within the scope of the project, as a result of the calculations made in line with the standards, a quality and evenly distributed lighting design was provided with the combination of direct, indirect and pendant lighting.

Human-Centered Innovation: Transforming Power Plant's Control Room with Artery

Control rooms are the operational heart of industrial facilities, often designed in the 1980s. "Artery" is a new control room floor project by Carcas Architects, emphasizing human-centered design for secure, productive, and efficient operations.

Design Process & Concept

The design approach starts from workstations, focusing on user needs, space efficiency, a central curve, and a central foyer for access to zones. The layout includes various rooms such as kitchen, bathrooms, technical rooms, control room, offices, and co-working/meeting tables.

Materials and Lighting

The material selection includes natural wood hues, soft tones, dark curves, and reflective materials. Lighting optimization uses indirect, task, and suspended fixtures to create a quality and evenly distributed lighting design.

Functional Zoning

Zones are defined by color differences in flooring material to prevent unnecessary interactions. High tables with stools are provided for lounge space, keeping screens in line of sight for operators to rest while maintaining visual connection to the control room.
